Arata Gallery opening, with some Santacon entertainment on the side.

The Gallery looked great and, the opening was well attended. I received some really good feedback.

What a fun way to get yourself in the yuletide mood and, if thousands of Santa's cant get you into the spirit, nothing can...HO HO HO!

Robb Workshop Santa Fe, March 2009

Laura hasn't done a workshop in 9 years, so I jumped all over this one and, I'm glad I did. You can see the influence of Schmid. Laura spends a couple of hours on her setup alone and, she says "I paint to entertain myself"... Ahh, that must be what I'm doing wrong!

Laura's a great teacher, and I recomend her workshop...if you can't get in. Just pester her a lot, via email.

Gerhartz Workshop Wisconsin August 2009

The Gerhartz Studio

Dan did 4 demos throughout the week and, started with this one.

Outdoor Demo

We each got in about 6 paintings that week and Dan made his way around the room (at least 4 times per painting session) with encouraging advice...

SQUINT DOWN!

This was a great group of people, from as far as South Africa, Australia and Alaska. Wisconsin is such a beautiful State with very warm people.

Wasn't sure I was ready for this workshop (just started painting the face) but, found it was for the best ...before I developed any bad habits.

~For those who can I highly recommend his workshop, I can't say I've had any better instruction than this.

Gerhartz October 2009

First demo

Second demo

A back lit portrait.

I don't think I'm using enough paint!

Dan covered many topics:
Setting up a large scale painting with a still life, how he photographs his paintings, how to antique a frame and, the use of his monitor and photoshop while he paints.

Another great workshop and, a wonderful group of people.
~Life just doesn't get any better, as an artist!

Plein Air.....well it's a romantic idea.

OK, for those of you that haven't seen this clip... it's a must and for those who have, who could get enough of these guys, oh excuse me... "real men"!

http://www.blip.tv/file/1431968

This is why I don't paint much "plein air" people... and when I do all the conditions have to be just right. A bathroom, shade, a place to eat and close enough to the car so I don't have to lug all that equipment around looking like a bag lady. Now, I am not contradicting those instructors of mine, a quick "color study" is fine but, those "all day paint outs" of chasing the sun, are for the birds. I've walked away with the weirdest of sunburn patterns, my easel and umbrella have practically taken flight just like Mary Poppins, dropped my finished painting in the sand, attacked by seagulls who pierced right through my paint tubes, and those bugs!

Like I said..."a romantic idea" Enjoy!
Jeremy and Tony you "MEN" rock!
